Reading Notes Week 7: South African Tales, Section B

South African Tales, Section B

The Jackal and the Monkey

A common theme in all these stories so far is that the Jackal is a trickster often resulting in the other character's death or humiliation. I could write up a story where all the characters come together to get back at the Jackal.

The Story of Hare

This is a monstrous tale where a seemingness innocent animal is able to kill multiple predators and advisories. It really paints the hare in a negative light. I like the concept of taking something that is seeming innocent and twisting it into something very dark and morbid.

Elephant and Tortoise

Some of the themes in lessons in the stories are so obscure that I do not even know what they are... Perhaps for this story it is be forgiving?

Lion Who Thought Himself Wiser Than His Mother

The title explains what the theme is of the story. Betrayal of the Lion by his human "friend"

I am so confused by these stories...

Woman and a Lion
