Week 3 Reading Notes: Saints and Animals, Section A

Saints and Animals, Section A

The first story is about a boy who is so focused and dedicated to his success that he is not flustered at all when his jealous peers perform mischievous actions towards him. Their attempts to derail his success actually make him more respectable to their Father.

  • I like how the character remains modest and proud regardless of his success both before and after the attempts to tarnish his reputation. I could use this when creating a character.
  • Or perhaps I can change the story to where he is a complete screw up and the laughing stock of the other students and when they trick him, they actually help him become more respectable.
The following story in this section is about Saint Blaise and his ability tame any wild beast. I got a very, How to Tame Your Dragon Feel from this story, maybe I incorporate the theme from the movie into the story?
  • People are afraid of these beasts, but Saint Blaise shows them that they are actually friendly and easily tamable.
All of these stories have the same theme. A saint who is friends to the animals and their protector uses his ability to help either correct a wrongdoing or to punish someone not as kindhearted as he.

I especially like the stories of Kentigern and Berach as they are the most unique of the four. It would be cool to make Berach Kentigern in the future.

This has nothing to do with the readings, but I was listening to The Breeders during this assignment.
